The Alberta Foster & Kinship Association (AFKA) is more than a support network; it is a lifeline for those standing in the gap for Alberta’s most vulnerable children. With a mission rooted in stability and resilience, AFKA empowers caregivers to provide nurturing environments where children can truly belong. In a province where nearly 75% of children in care are Indigenous, AFKA’s work is a vital pursuit of justice and restoration—equipping families to turn a complex system into a community of care.

Insight
Shaped By Love peels back the curtain on a system often shrouded in stigma and misconception. For many, foster care is viewed through the lens of temporary transition or impersonal bureaucracy. This film challenges that narrative by revealing the profound beauty found in fostering. It reminds us that while the "system" may be complex, the solution is deeply human: a stable home, an open heart, and the courage to say "yes" to a child in need.

Solution
This 48-minute documentary tells the story of David Langeudoc, a man whose life was defined by both profound loss and an enduring love. Having navigated the system himself as an orphaned child and been through seasons of deep grief, David chose to enter the world of fostering in his 60s, proving that the call to care has no expiration date.
