As one of Canada’s leading universities, UBC drives global innovation through a strong culture of philanthropy. The university’s "FORWARD" campaign aims to raise $3 billion and double alumni engagement to shape a better world. Within this mission, the Student Awards & Donor Relations team serves as the vital link between generous donors and the students whose futures they make possible

Challenge
UBC needed to refresh its Student Thank-You Program to move beyond transactional recognition and build lasting relationships. The goal was to create a distinct identity for thank-you letters, award notices, and impact reports that felt authentic and student-centered while remaining strictly anchored in the high-level UBC FORWARD visual system.



Insight
A "microbrand" must find the space where institutional consistency and personal gratitude collide. While the university’s visual sandbox is firmly defined, the program required its own unique language to bridge the gap between a massive institution and the deeply human impact of a single student’s story.


Solution
This project moved directly into concept ideation, developing three distinct visual directions that amplified student voices with warmth and sincerity. By delivering ready-to-use templates and lite brand guidelines, we provided a sustainable framework for UBC to share authentic gratitude that celebrates the donors who make these futures possible.
